Position: Purchase Manager – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Department: Purchase & Procurement

Reporting To: Director / General Manager – Operations

Experience: 8–12 years (at least 3 years in pharma procurement)

Qualification: B.Pharm / B.Sc / MBA (Supply Chain / Materials Management)


Job Purpose:

To manage and control the procurement of raw materials, packaging materials, and services required for pharmaceutical manufacturing, ensuring cost efficiency, timely availability, and compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:


Plan and execute procurement of raw materials, excipients, and packaging materials as per production schedules.



Develop and maintain relationships with approved vendors and suppliers.



Negotiate prices, terms, and contracts to achieve cost efficiency.

Ensure procurement aligns with GMP, FDA, and audit requirement

Coordinate with production, QA/QC, stores, and accounts for smooth material flo

Monitor vendor performance, lead time, and quality complianc

Manage inventory control, re-order levels, and material planning


Prepare and maintain purchase orders, rate contracts, and procurement MIS.

Identify and qualify new vendors to support product development and diversification.

Ensure compliance with company SOPs, documentation, and audit requirements.

Key Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of pharma raw materials, excipients, and packaging materials.

Familiarity with vendor qualification, audit documentation, and regulatory norms.

Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.

Proficient in ERP / SAP / Tally and Microsoft Office tools.

Ability to handle multiple projects and vendors simultaneously.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

On-time availability of materials

Cost savings achieved through negotiations

Reduction in vendor lead time

Zero production stoppage due to material shortage

Compliance in procurement documentation
